Domantas Sabonis grew up in Lithuania in one of basketball's most famous families, and he and his wife Shashana have built their family giving around young people: an adopted elementary school in Sacramento, holiday surprises for local students, and a lasting gift to the college program that shaped him.
The Sabonis Squad
Sabonis and his wife Shashana launched the Sabonis Squad, adopting Caroline Wenzel Elementary School in Sacramento. The program provides the school's students with support and supplies, and the family has also provided physical education equipment for the school.
A Season of Doing Good
During the Kings' annual Season of Doing Good, the Sabonises surprised students in the school's after-school program with food, warm coats and books to read over the holiday break. Students who finished their books earned the chance to win Kings gear and game tickets.
Showing Up Around Town
Beyond the school, Sabonis has surprised everyday fans with game tickets at a local barbershop, The 916 Cuts, and at Franklin D. Roosevelt Park. That everyday presence in the community earned him the Kings' 2023 Community Crossover Award.
Rebounds for Wildfire Relief
In March 2025, with wildfires having devastated parts of California, Sabonis pledged $2,500 for every rebound he grabbed in home games, up to $100,000, to support families affected by the fires.
A Name on the Wall at Gonzaga
Domantas and Shashana made a major gift to Gonzaga University, where he played two college seasons. The Sabonis Family Strength and Conditioning Center was dedicated on July 9, 2026, an investment in the student-athletes who will follow him there.
