Bradley Beal

Independent Philanthropy
NO SPECIFIC FOUNDATION

Bradley Beal has never put his giving under a foundation with his name on the door. Instead it is personal and hands-on, built around two communities: a high school in Washington, D.C. that he adopted as his own, and the St. Louis youth program that raised him.

THE WORK
WASHINGTON, D.C., 2018

Adopting Ron Brown High School

For the 2018-19 school year, Beal adopted Ron Brown College Preparatory High School, an all-boys public school in Northeast Washington. Having attended an all-boys school himself in St. Louis, he served as the school's Principal for a Day in September 2018 and kept coming back, visiting regularly to mentor students on academics and life, not just basketball.

WASHINGTON, D.C.

More Than Basketball

Beal took Ron Brown students to the National Museum of African American History and Culture so they could see their history up close, and he worked closely with the school's basketball team. He has said he wanted to be the kind of role model he felt he never had growing up.

JUNE 2019

Seasonlong NBA Cares Community Assist Award

Beal's year of sustained work with Ron Brown and other D.C. organizations, including the Salvation Army, earned him the 2018-19 Seasonlong NBA Cares Community Assist Award, the league's highest honor for a full season of community service.

APRIL 2020

Laptops and Gift Cards in the Pandemic

When COVID-19 closed schools, Beal donated 50 computers and 100 Giant Food gift cards to Ron Brown students learning from home. He also partnered with PepsiCo to provide meals to children who had lost access to nutritious food.

ST. LOUIS, 2017

Bradley Beal Elite

The St. Louis Eagles, the nonprofit youth basketball program Beal himself played for as a teenager, became Bradley Beal Elite in 2017, with his name and support behind its mission of helping St. Louis-area players earn college scholarships. He has stayed personally involved ever since, even coaching the program's 16-and-under team himself in recent summers.
