Kristaps Porzingis carries a whole country with him. The boy from Liepaja who became Latvia's most famous basketball player has built his giving around the game itself: paying for every blocked shot, coaching hundreds of kids at his camp back home, and standing as proof for Latvian children that their small country can reach the biggest stage.
KrisStops
In his second season with the Knicks, Porzingis began the KrisStops program, donating $500 for every shot he blocked to RENS, a nonprofit New York youth basketball program. The signature skill that made him famous in Madison Square Garden was converted, block by block, into support for city kids learning the game.
Home for Camp
Porzingis runs a basketball camp back home in Latvia, giving young players there direct access to an NBA star from their own country. The 2017 edition drew around 250 children, and the camp has remained a fixture of his summers, a standing invitation for Latvian kids to dream bigger.
Basketball Without Borders
In August 2017 Porzingis played for Team World in the NBA Africa Game in Johannesburg, part of the Basketball Without Borders effort that pairs exhibition basketball with youth development and community programs across Africa. It was global community work in the same spirit as his camps at home.
KrisStops Against Child Hunger
KrisStops returned with the Dallas Mavericks, this time aimed at hunger. Porzingis donated $500 for every block, partner Whataburger added $100 more, and the money flowed through the Mavs Foundation to local organizations tackling child hunger in North Texas.
The KP Foundation
Much of Porzingis's giving runs through his family's foundation, supporting young people and community causes in Latvia and in the cities where he has played. Basketball is a family inheritance in the Porzingis household, both of his parents played, and the family's work off the court is treated as part of the same legacy.
