De'Aaron Fox

Social Initiatives
NO SPECIFIC FOUNDATION

De'Aaron Fox's giving in Sacramento has been personal and seasonal. He fights breast cancer in honor of his mother, a longtime survivor, and every holiday season he and his wife Recee show up for refugee and immigrant families building new lives in the city he called home.

THE WORK
SACRAMENTO, 2018

$100 an Assist Against Breast Cancer

Fox launched a Breast Cancer Community Assist Program, donating $100 for every assist he recorded in home games, up to $20,000, to Sacramento's Albie Aware Breast Cancer Foundation. The money helped fund free mammograms for women across the region.

HOUSTON TO SACRAMENTO

For His Mother

Fox's mother, Lorraine, is a breast cancer survivor, and growing up in Houston the family took part in awareness walks together. He carried that cause with him to Sacramento, where breast cancer work became the first signature cause of his young career.

JANUARY 2019

Bigger Than Basketball

Fox hosted his first Sacramento charity event for breast cancer awareness, a sold-out evening built around his family's story. His mother stood beside him as he spoke to the crowd about why the cause matters to them.

SACRAMENTO, THANKSGIVING

Holidays With Opening Doors

Since 2021, Fox and his wife Recee have partnered with Opening Doors, a Sacramento nonprofit that stands with immigrants, refugees and survivors of trafficking. In November 2024 they gave 20 families complete Thanksgiving packages: turkeys, sides, nonperishable food and $100 grocery gift cards, and stayed to greet every family.

SACRAMENTO, CHRISTMAS

The Christmas Giveaway

The family's holiday giving continues each Christmas with a giveaway for local families. Fox has said the holidays are when he most loves being in touch with the community that cheers for him, and that they try to return the same support the city gives them.
