Bam Adebayo was raised by his mother Marilyn in a single-wide trailer in North Carolina, and his foundation is built around families like theirs. Working in Miami and back home in North Carolina, it supports single parents while opening chances, choices and a better future for their children.
Bam, Books and Brotherhood
Adebayo's foundation work, known as Bam, Books and Brotherhood, exists to change lives for single mothers while changing the future chances, choices and challenges for children. Raised by a single mother himself, he has made single-parent families the center of everything the foundation does, all year round.
Thanksgiving for the Neighborhood
Every Thanksgiving season, Adebayo hosts a food distribution in Miami's Liberty City neighborhood, handing out holiday meals to local families in person. In 2020 the drive fed more than 1,750 people, and in recent years teammates and friends have joined him on the street to serve the neighborhood.
Ready for the First Day
The foundation's back-to-school drives have put supplies and backpacks in the hands of more than 2,350 students across South Florida and North Carolina. Adebayo has also shipped hundreds of backpacks home to children in North Carolina, remembering the classrooms he came from.
A Toy Drive That Filled an Arena
Each December the foundation hosts its holiday toy drive on the Miami Heat's home court at the Kaseya Center, welcoming more than 2,000 students from underserved communities. Children share a meal and choose from more than 36,000 toys, a haul reported as a Guinness World Record, and leftover gifts are donated to organizations across South Florida.
Bam's Basketball Camp
More than 800 at-risk young athletes have been invited to Adebayo's annual summer basketball camp, where the game is the draw and mentorship is the point. The foundation also backs youth programs like the Liberty City Warriors, keeping kids in structured, supported teams.
Holidays, and Everything Between
Across the calendar the foundation has provided meals, presents and support to more than 56,000 families during the holiday season. It has also brought North Carolina student-athletes to Miami for game-day weekends honoring their schoolwork and perseverance, with courtside seats, jerseys and time with the team.
