Luka Doncic's giving follows his life across three homes: Slovenia, where he grew up; Dallas, where he became a star; and Los Angeles, his new home. The Luka Doncic Foundation works on the health and happiness of children through play, and when crisis strikes a place he loves, he answers personally and quickly.
A Foundation for Joyful Sport
On World Basketball Day, December 21, 2024, Doncic officially launched the Luka Doncic Foundation, dedicated to making youth sports a joyful and enriching force in children's lives around the world. The foundation opened by publishing Inside Youth Basketball, a commissioned study of the youth game in the United States and Europe, and a plan it calls the Total Hoops Approach, aimed at keeping kids playing for the love of it.
Standing With Belgrade
After the shooting at Vladislav Ribnikar Elementary School in Belgrade in May 2023, Doncic, whose father is Serbian and whose family has roots in the region, committed through his foundation to pay the funeral costs for the eight students and the security guard who were killed, and to fund grief counseling for the school's students and staff, with longer term support to follow.
$500,000 for Fire Recovery
On the morning of his first game as a Los Angeles Laker, before he had played a minute for the team, Doncic announced his foundation was donating $500,000 to immediate wildfire recovery efforts through the Community Foundation Wildfire Recovery Fund. He also committed to helping rebuild the destroyed courts, playgrounds and fields, writing that every kid needs a safe place to play. He signed the note: your new neighbour.
Hospital Parties for Brave Kids
Doncic's foundation has made a tradition of the holidays. In December 2022 it threw a party for around 200 young patients at Scottish Rite for Children in Dallas, with gifts he helped choose, games, crafts and treats. In December 2023 its holiday projects reached nearly 275 children, including gift deliveries to children's hospitals and financial help for families with babies in the NICU at Cook Children's in Fort Worth, covering costs like rent, mortgages and utility bills.
Never Forgetting Home
The same holiday giving reaches Slovenia every year: a surprise party for children at a Ljubljana children's hospital, gifts for the young people at the Malci Belic Youth Care Center and the Verzej residential institution, and support for Slovenian communities hit by the catastrophic floods of August 2023. Wherever his career takes him, the kids back home are never off his list.
